The Principality of Sealand is a small, self-declared micronation located in the North Sea. It is situated on a man-made platform that was originally constructed during World War II. Despite its small size, Sealand has gained international recognition as a unique entity.
Location of Sealand
Sealand is positioned approximately 12 kilometers off the coast of Suffolk, England. It is built on a former anti-aircraft platform called HM Fort Roughs. The platform is located in international waters, outside the territorial waters of any country.
Physical Features of Sealand
The platform is made of steel and measures about 15 meters in diameter. It is surrounded by a concrete seawall to protect against the harsh sea conditions. The structure includes a small building that serves as the living quarters and administrative area.
Sealand’s elevation is minimal, with the entire platform sitting just above sea level. It is equipped with basic facilities, including a helipad and communication equipment. The platform is designed to withstand the weather conditions of the North Sea.
